Prince William is an avid football fan but his wife Princess Kate is rarely seen alongside him at England matches.
Kate teases William when asked about rugby
Princess Kate has not been by Prince William’s side in Germany as he cheered England’s football team on, as she has been taking time away while she receives cancer treatment.
However, that is not the only reason for her absence, as she traditionally stays away from football due to her allegiance to another English sport.
Kate is patron of English rugby, a role previously held by Prince Harry, and as such it would not be appropriate for her to show her support for English football in public.
Football is known to be “William’s thing” as he is President of the Football Association and is devoted to his beloved Aston Villa as well as England.
The Birmingham team might seem a strange choice for the Prince, but he explained his allegiance to BBC presenter Gary Lineker in 2015.

Princess Kate is a rugby fan
He said: “A long time ago at school I got into football big time. All my friends were Chelsea or Manchester United fans and I didn’t really want to follow a run-of-the-mill team.
“I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments. Aston Villa has always had a great history.
“I have got friends of mine who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I went to was Bolton v Aston Villa back in 2000. Sadly, Villa went on to lose to Chelsea.

William has been introducing Prince George to Aston Villa
“It was fantastic, I sat with all the fans with my red beanie on, and I was sat with all the Brummie fans and had a great time. It was the atmosphere, the camaraderie and I really felt that there was something I could connect with.”
William was not able to attend the England semi-final match against the Netherlands in Dortmund as he has an engagement with his Homewards project today.
However, it is hoped he will be pitch-side at Berlin on Sunday to see his team take on Spain in the Euro 2024 final, following their decisive 2-1 victory over the Dutch.
Princess Kate will hopefully be back at the rugby soon
Although Kate has only made one official public appearance this year, at last year’s Rugby World Cup she sent fans into a frenzy when she popped up on the large screen in the stadium.
The Princess was dressed in all white and seemed as surprised as the rest of the crowd when her face appeared, but she was delighted with the reaction from people and smiled.
A clip of the moment was uploaded to TikTok, with one gushing royal fan writing in the comments: “THE LOOK, THE HAIR, THE CROWD, EVERYTHING.”
