She, too, is a number one draft. While the fans are concentrating on the Indiana Fever’s rookie Caitlin Clark, they forget that much like Clark, their forward Aliyah Boston was also a top pick during the WNBA 2023 draft. Hence, while Clark was being screened by defenders as per plans by the Mercury’s head coach Nate Tibbetts, Boston was trusted with the responsibility of playing a major role in the game. But as Boston was doing her duties, the Mercury veteran Brittney Griner gave a tough time to her, and this was noticed by all fans.
The Fever were guarding their post from the other team when Griner looked seemingly frustrated with Boston screening her. Griner, without hesitating, pushed Boston and made an unprofessional move. Thankfully for the Fever fans, justice was served, and the Fever were awarded with a free throw. Griner had notably shoved Boston on her face or neck area.

The matter was referred for replays, which clearly showed that Griner was at fault and she was given a technical foul for it, as mentioned before. The score was in favor of the Mercury with a 31-26 tally and Clark was given the onus of going for the free throw which she potted. Thus Clark helped her team get closer to the lead, and the Fever were then positioned at 27. Fans in the meantime didn’t let go of the opportunity to slam Griner.
Fans mock Brittney Griner for her faulty behaviour
“Britney Griner shoved the shit out of Aliyah Boston 😂😂,” one fan exclaimed on how extremely unsportsmanlike the play was from Griner’s end who just went ahead to shove Boston while waiting for the game to resume.
“Aliyah Boston be getting under the girlies skin only way to explain the non-basketball play by Brittney Griner,” another fan commented. The netizen must be referring to the fact that Griner and Boston had been jolting each other for possession too many times in the game and that must have irritated Griner.
“she better chill cause bg really like that yall remember when she punched jordan barncastle,” another fan took the opportunity to point out Griner’s aggression issues. She referred to an incident in May 2010 when during her freshman year for the Baylor, Griner had punched a Texas Tech player during an ongoing game. She had been ejected from the match for her behavior.
“So THAT was a flagrant 1 on NaLyssa Smith. But that foul on Brittney Griner against Aliyah Boston wasn’t flagrant at all? Terrible officiating,” one user pointed out the fact that NaLyssa Smith had received a flagrant foul 1 after she had hit Diana Taurasi in the sternum. As per the user, Griner too should have received a flagrant foul 1.
“Push wasn’t even hard for her to act like that,” another fan commented. The user stated that Boston reacted too much after being pushed as she moved from her position and gave an animated surprising look as per the netizen. Therefore, according to him, Boston wasn’t shoved so hard.
Perhaps, fans from both sides will calm down and let the officials take over the game. The game certainly looks to be close and it remains to be seen who will emerge as the ultimate winner in this tight clash.
