Travis Kelce’s Dream: Playing Abroad with an NFL Team in London

Travis Kelce, the dynamic tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, recently sparked conversations about his future in the NFL with a unique scenario: playing for a team based in London. On his “New Heights” podcast with his brother, retired NFL player Jason Kelce, Travis mentioned that the only situation in which he would consider leaving the Chiefs is if he had the opportunity to play abroad.

“I’m waiting for that team to play for another team other than the Chiefs,” he said. “That’s the only situation is if I get to play abroad.”

However, Travis later clarified his stance on social media, writing, “Let’s be honest, I’d never leave the Chiefs… but playing in London sounds fun.” This playful comment has fueled speculation and excitement among fans about the possibility of Kelce donning a jersey for a London-based team, should the NFL ever expand internationally.

The NFL’s relationship with London began in 2007 when the New York Giants faced the Miami Dolphins, marking the start of regular-season games being played across the pond. Since then, the NFL has steadily increased its presence in the UK, with multiple games held each season, drawing significant crowds and growing a dedicated fan base.

During a recent trip to London, the Kelce brothers immersed themselves in the local culture, attending Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ and even meeting members of the Royal Family. This experience seemed to further Travis’s interest in the idea of an NFL team in London. He speculated that such an expansion could happen within the next decade, though he acknowledged that the specific location might not necessarily be London.

For Kelce, who turns 35 in October and is entering his 11th NFL season, time is a crucial factor. Despite his age, the nine-time Pro Bowler shows no signs of slowing down. Last season, he recorded 93 catches for 984 yards and five touchdowns during the regular season. His performance in the playoffs was equally impressive, with 32 receptions for 355 yards and three touchdowns, contributing significantly to the Chiefs’ second consecutive Super Bowl victory and their third since 2019.

As Kansas City gears up for another championship run, aiming to be the first team to win three straight Super Bowls in the Super Bowl era, Kelce remains a cornerstone of their success. The last team to achieve three consecutive titles was the Green Bay Packers from 1965 to 1967, before the NFL-AFL merger.

While the prospect of Kelce playing for a London-based team remains a longshot, the idea captures the imagination of fans and highlights the NFL’s potential for international growth. For now, Travis Kelce continues to be an essential part of the Chiefs’ quest for further glory, but the dream of playing abroad lingers as an intriguing possibility.
