The Princess of Wales is not expected to travel to France.
Next month, King Charles will embark on his first overseas trip since his cancer diagnosis, joining Queen Camilla and Prince William for the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy.
Charles and Camilla will participate in the Ministry of Defence and Royal British Legion’s commemorative event at the British Normandy Memorial in Ver-sur-Mer. Prince William will attend the Canadian ceremony at Juno Beach Centre, Courseulles-sur-Mer, hosted by the Canadian government with Second World War veterans and armed forces personnel. Later, he will join 25 heads of state and international veterans at the commemorative ceremony at Omaha Beach, Saint Laurent sur Mer, on June 6.
The Princess of Wales will remain in the UK. In Staffordshire, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will join veterans at the Royal British Legion’s Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will attend the ‘D-Day 80: Remembering the Normandy Landings’ event at the Royal Albert Hall.
Before traveling to France, the King, Queen, and Prince William will attend the UK’s national commemorative event for the D-Day Landings in Portsmouth on June 5. That same day, Princess Anne and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence will unveil a statue of a Canadian Royal Regina Rifleman to mark the anniversary. Princess Anne, Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Regina Rifles, will also attend a reception with the Regiment in Normandy and join veterans at the Bayeux War Cemetery for a Royal British Legion Service of Commemoration.
These events, coordinated by the Ministry of Defence and the Royal British Legion, honor the sacrifices of those who participated in the D-Day Landings in June 1944.
