Meghan Markle is embroiled in further legal proceedings initiated by her estranged half-sister, Samantha Markle. This development comes after a court previously ruled in favor of the Duchess of Sussex in a defamation case involving the feuding siblings.

Samantha Markle is now preparing a last-minute legal attempt to overturn Meghan’s court victory in their acrimonious libel case.

The elder Markle, who shares a father with the Duchess of Sussex, first sued Meghan in 2022. The lawsuit centers around comments made by Meghan during her Oprah Winfrey interview and Netflix series. Samantha’s civil lawsuit claimed the comments were “disparaging, hurtful, and false” statements which suggested she was “a stranger, a liar, and a . . . deceptive fame-seeking imposter with avaricious intentions”.

The Duchess of Sussex reiterated this narrative in the Harry and Meghan Netflix series and insisted she “didn’t remember” ever seeing Samantha growing up.

“I was with my mom during the week and with my dad on the weekends. And my dad lived alone, he had two adult children who had moved out of his house,” she told the camera.

“I don’t remember seeing her when I was a kid at my dad’s house,” Meghan continued, “if and when they would come around”.

Although Meghan initially won the case, Samantha has escalated matters by taking the lawsuit to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeal. Her lawyers face a July deadline for filing their initial brief. In her Oprah Winfrey interview, Meghan emphasized being raised as an only child and having minimal contact with Samantha, who is nearly two decades older.

Despite the legal battle, Samantha continues to publicly criticize her world-famous sister. Notably, she also authored a tell-all book about Meghan, echoing her brother-in-law Prince Harry’s literary endeavors.

Samantha’s latest appeal hinges on the cumulative impact of Meghan’s remarks, portraying her as a liar. Her legal team argues that the court overlooked the collective effect of these statements.
