Caitlin Clark has done it once again. The Indiana Fever had lost three games against the New York Liberty this season. And on Saturday night, it was high time for Clark to redeem herself of the losses. And Clark just did that. In an exemplary display, Clark scored 19 points with 13 assists and 12 rebounds, becoming the first WNBA rookie to ever record a triple-double. This certainly brought her back into the conversation for the Rookie of the Year award- something that was deemed difficult for her to win by her critics, after her rival Angel Reese set on a double-double streak.
So after Indiana’s win over New York on Saturday night by an 83-78 margin, her head coach Christie Sides was probed if Clark deserved to win the Rookie of the Year award. And Sides by all means was extremely appreciative of Clark. She even compared the 22-year-old to Diana Taurasi, a debate that was growing after the 42-year-old had made it to the Team USA for the Paris Olympics while Clark had been snubbed.
“I’m always gonna make a case for my players. First and foremost she is the most competitive human being I’ve ever met. I really compare her to Diana Taurasi,” Sides stated.

This pointed out the fact that Sides’ loyalties lay with Clark and that she wasn’t interested in letting Reese take home the award. Meanwhile, Reese had come into the picture after she had scored a double-double against the Fever in late June when Chicago Sky had won the game by an 88-87 margin.
But Clark’s performance tonight put to rest everything that had gone against her. She is again in the battle against Reese and hopefully, she will defeat her. But it won’t be a cakewalk for her since Reese is also having the time of her life.
Angel Reese at par with Caitlin Clark
Reese in her latest game against the Seattle Storm on Friday scored a career-high 27 points. She also recorded her 12th consecutive double-double tying it with Candace Parker. Parker had hit the same number of double-doubles during the 2009 and 2010 WNBA seasons. Reese furthermore, also hit a three-pointer, the first time she scored from beyond the arc. It was a big accomplishment for Reese since she is not known for her threes.

All this has kept her hopes of winning the Rookie of the Year alive. And Stephen A. Smith, Shannon Sharpe, Monica McNutt have already declared Reese as the more deserving candidate. McNutt opines that since the Chicago Sky is making it to the playoffs, Reese is more deserving of the award since at the end of the day it is all about winning. Plus, she is also inclined towards Reese since unlike the Fever they don’t have any first-overall pick in their team.
But still, it remains to be seen since Clark has made a sharp entry with her latest performance. And this has once again started the Rookie of the Year debate. Hopefully for Sides, and Clark’s fans, she will leave Reese behind by miles with her performances in the upcoming games.
