Indiana Fever Coach Sends Clear Message About Caitlin Clark’s Turnovers.
Caitlin Clark’s debut for the Indiana Fever featured a WNBA record – but not the one she was hoping for.
The No. 1 overall pick turned the ball over 10 times, a record for a player in their WNBA debut. Following her tough outing, Fever head coach Christie Sides suggested it wasn’t all Clark’s fault.
“Caitlin was able to get her some looks, able to knock them down. Our spacing was not great,” Indiana coach Christie Sides said. “Connecticut came in and punched us in the mouth tonight.
Clark, on the other hand, knows she has to perform better.
“I’m disappointed, and nobody likes to lose, but I don’t think you can beat yourself up too much about one game,” Clark said after the game. “I don’t think that’s going to help this team. Just learn from it and move on.”
She admitted the WNBA game was “physical” and touched on the foul trouble she found herself in during the first quarter.
“I thought it was physical,” Clark said. “I don’t know, obviously it wasn’t the best start in the first half for myself – getting into foul trouble and then you have to sit on the bench before coming back into the game to get into a little bit of a flow.”
Clark has a chance to bounce back when she and the Fever face off against the New York Liberty on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. ET.
