Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin maintained an unbroken rhythm throughout their time together, starting 139 games side by side over the past four years. Gabbie Marshall holds the record for the most career games played among any Big Ten women’s basketball player, having participated in 166 matches.

Together, these three players forged an unparalleled legacy, arguably marking the pinnacle of Hawkeye history. This illustrious era came to a close on Sunday night.

Three starters who defied the odds and reached the summit after facing skepticism at the start of the season.

Iowa stood toe-to-toe with basketball giants, toppling the likes of Kim Mulkey and Geno Auriemma, and remains the only team in the past two seasons to defeat South Carolina.

While not clinching a championship stings, it’s not the legacy this team leaves behind.

“Time flies, it’s surreal. I can’t believe this is my final game,” remarked Clark.

“There’s so much to be proud of. People didn’t just love us for our wins, but for our daily demeanor. How we played for each other, the joy, passion, and competitive spirit we brought every day. The way we celebrated each other’s success. That’s why people tuned in to Iowa women’s basketball.”

“I looked up to Iowa women’s basketball, but it’s different now. It’s amazing to be part of this transformation. Our legacy is changing women’s basketball,” added Martin.

“We’ve been through it all together, the highs and lows. Building chemistry on and off the court with Coach Bluder,” Marshall reflected on their journey together.
