Patrick Mahomes’ Secret to Success: A Pair of Red Underwear

At just 28, Patrick Mahomes is a two-time NFL MVP and two-time Super Bowl champ. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback credits part of his success to a unique superstition: wearing the same pair of red underwear for every NFL game of his six-year career.

This quirky habit was revealed by former Chiefs quarterback Chad Henne during an interview with ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Henne shared that Mahomes, known for his meticulous nature, is also particular about his game-day underwear. “There’s things that I’ve seen that nobody else has seen,” Henne joked.

Mahomes confirmed the superstition in an interview with Eli and Peyton Manning, explaining that his wife Brittany gifted him the underwear. He wears them only on game days, washing them occasionally. “If we’re on a hot streak, I can’t wash them,” he said. “As long as we’re winning, I’ll keep the superstition going.”

Mahomes’ pre-game rituals, including this underwear superstition, were also highlighted in Netflix’s series “Quarterback.” Since joining the Chiefs in 2017, he has signed a 10-year, $450 million extension, with potential earnings up to $218.1 million by 2026.
