The Hawkeyes held a season celebration at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City on Wednesday to honor the Iowa women’s basketball team’s historic run in the NCAA tournament.
During the event, Iowa Director of Athletics Chair Beth Goetz announced that Caitlin Clark’s jersey would be retired in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the team.
Despite a valiant effort, No. 1 South Carolina emerged victorious over No. 1 Iowa with a score of 87-75 in the NCAA championship game at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, on Sunday. This marked the Hawkeyes’ second consecutive runner-up finish. South Carolina completed the season undefeated with 38 wins.
Iowa concluded their remarkable season ranked No. 2 in the AP poll, boasting a commendable 34-5 record. Their journey to the championship game included victories over Colorado in the Sweet Sixteen, LSU in the Elite Eight, and UConn in the Final Four.
During the celebration, Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder delivered remarks, along with senior Hawkeyes Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall, Sharon Goodman, and Molly Davis.
