Before this year’s NFL draft, Iowa cornerback prospect Cooper DeJean was asked if he thought he could beat Caitlin Clark in a game of 1-on-1.
DeJean, a star basketball player at the high school level, said yes — sparking serious debate around the sporting world.
Clark has since issued a response to DeJean.
During a recent appearance on Up & Adams, the Eagles cornerback said Clark reached out to shut down his claim.
“She texted me and said that she doesn’t think that I could beat her,” DeJean said.
DeJean said he has the utmost respect for Clark and would love to get on the court for a game of 1-on-1 sometime in the future. He later doubled down, saying he still thinks he could beat the WNBA’s No. 1 overall pick.
“I really wanted to play basketball coming out of high school. I wanted to play in college,” DeJean continued. “… I stuck with football. Football was probably the better option for me.”
Clark and the Fever will take the court again for a preseason matchup against the Atlanta Dream on Thursday night.
