Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark will have her first opportunity to go up against a WNBA legend on Sunday.
The Fever will face the Phoenix Mercury and Diana Taurasi, a moment Clark called a “dream come true.”
“That’s somebody I grew up idolizing and looking up to and wanting to be like one day,” Clark said in her media availability on Saturday (2:20 mark). “Obviously she’s one of the greatest players our game has ever seen, greatest scorer our game has ever seen. For me, I’m excited, that’s fun. It’s kind of like a dream come true in a way. You get to live out your dream while playing against the best, one of the best there ever has been.”
Taurasi has been one of the faces of the league since she was drafted in 2004, so Clark and many others likely dream of the day they finally get to face off against her.
While it will be a cool moment for Clark, she’ll be looking to get the win as she and the Fever continue their playoff push. Indiana currently sits in ninth place in the WNBA at 7-12, half a game behind the Chicago Sky.
Clark has had a strong start to her WNBA career, averaging 16.2 points, 6.6 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game through 19 games.
