The NBA is in mourning today following the passing of a former player who suited up for the Los Angeles Lakers, as well as a few other teams.
TMZ Sports has confirmed that former guard Darius Morris died this week, with his family having offered the publication a statement.
“With great sadness we announce the passing of our dearly beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris,” it reads. “During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
Darius was only 33.
A cause of death has not yet been revealed, with details still sketchy. But TMZ reports that his body was found in the Los Angeles Area on Thursday
Morris had a memorable high school career in L.A. before playing for the Michigan Wolverines, where he also shone. He was named to the All-Big Ten Conference third team in his sophomore year.
He broke the program’s single-season record for assists that year, dishing out 235. It was broken by Trey Burke a few years later.
