Two-time consensus college basketball player of the year Caitlin Clark is understandably going through an adjustment period in the WNBA. After her first two pro games, the former Iowa superstar has shot just 30.5 percent from the field and committed 13 turnovers.
On Thursday, Clark reflected on the physicality and speed of the pro game, per ESPN.com’s Michael Voepel.
“The physicality is definitely up there. … I’m easily pushed off screens,” Clark said. “The game seems a little fast for me right now. The more I play and the more comfortable I get, it’s going to slow down a little bit. It will be easier for me to make reads, see things develop.”
Clark made those remarks before her team fell 102-66 to the New York Liberty at home. She scored nine points on 2-of-8 shooting and added seven rebounds and six assists in her first game in front of Fever fans.
Clark scored 20 points in her debut against the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday but committed 10 turnovers in a 92-71 loss.
Through two games, Clark has averaged 14.5 points on 27.8 percent shooting from three-point range, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 6.5 turnovers.
“When you’re in this league, there’s 12 teams—everybody’s good across the board,” Clark said before the Liberty game. “We’ve got a young group. But as long as we’re learning and continuing to get better, that’s what’s going to be positive for us.”
