No athlete in the annals of sports history has encountered as much pressure upon entering the professional arena as LeBron James did in the NBA. From the outset, James bore the responsibility of guiding a franchise to success.
Caitlin Clark, now playing for the Indiana Fever, perhaps stands as one of the few individuals who attained a similar level of prominence prior to joining the league. During her tenure with the Iowa Hawkeyes, Clark captivated audiences as a college phenomenon. She shattered the NCAA scoring record over four seasons and boasted the highest points-per-game average in NCAA history, surpassing 28 points in her senior year.
During a recent episode of his podcast “Mind the Game” alongside JJ Redick, James offered insights into Clark’s situation, discussing the immense pressure she faces and sharing his thoughts on her abilities.
On May 18, 2024, in Brooklyn, New York, Caitlin Clark, wearing the number 22 jersey for the Indiana Fever, was seen maneuvering past New York Liberty’s Courtney Vandersloot in the first quarter at the Barclays Center.
“But for her individually I don’t think she should get involved with nothing that’s being said. Just go have fun, enjoy. But I’m rooting for Caitlin because I’ve been in that seat before, I’ve walked that road before. I hope she kills. I hope Aliyah Boston does amazing.” said James, via Mind the Game on X.
James believes Clark is leading the change in the WNBA and she’s already been able to make a major impact. In just one month she’s been able to push for improvements in security, travel, and viewership TV rights.
Clark has received immense scrutiny in her early struggles, but James is throwing flowers her way, comforting the rookie in her time of backlash.
“The one thing that I love that she’s bringing to her sport, more people want to watch. More people want to tune it. Don’t get it twisted, don’t get it f*cked up. Caitlin Clark is the reason why a lot of great things is happening for the WNBA,” James continued.
