Caitlin Clark is poised to be remembered among the greatest players in the history of women’s college basketball. Her impact extends beyond the court, potentially elevating the sport to new heights in terms of public interest and financial investment.
However, with great influence also comes significant scrutiny and negativity directed towards Caitlin Clark. Religious figure Talbert W. Swan II is the latest individual to criticize Caitlin Clark and her expanding fan base.
Swan gained attention recently for ridiculing the Iowa Hawkeyes sensation, citing her consecutive losses in national title games against the LSU Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Just days ago, he shared a photo of three male referees alleging preferential treatment towards Caitlin Clark during games.

Furthermore, Swan called out fans who portrayed LSU Tigers standout Angel Reese as the antagonist of college basketball, while simultaneously disrespecting Clark and misspelling her name intentionally.
“No the media made her a ‘villain.’ When Kaitlyn Clark taunted her opponents was she considered a villain or was she considered spirited and competitive? #AngelReese became emotional when talking about being attacked, sexualized, and receiving death threats,” Swan tweeted. “Don’t join white supremacists in blaming Angel for white racists vilifying and dehumanizing her.”
No, the media made her a “villain.“

Swan also turned his attention to the media for covering Clark so much but not so much South Carolina who made history by going the entire season undefeated with a 38-0 record.
“Only in America can a predominantly Black women’s basketball team, coached by a Black woman, go 109–3 in three years, have a 38–0 season, and win the national title and the main story be about a white player on the losing team,” he wrote on X.

Once Caitlin Clark lost again in the big game, he then called out her fan base by referring to them as the “Mayo Posse.”
Hey, Mayo Posse
Y’all big mad or little mad? 😂😂

Social media erupted in response to his behavior, criticizing him for his actions:
Apparently white people are now called a "mayo posse"?

I wonder if Western New England College didn't have a Basketball team you could cheer for?
I am pretty sure USC fans are disgusted by having you jump on the bandwagon https://t.co/9XcJqOC0qb

Another example of why anyone focusing on race only further contributes to racism. https://t.co/9qLH9O9Uk6

Throughout all the negativity surrounding her, Caitlin Clark has maintained a dignified silence, choosing not to retaliate against any detractors. She remains focused on the significant transition ahead, as she prepares to embark on her new journey as the leading figure for the Indiana Fever in the WNBA.
With the Fever holding the top draft pick, it’s widely anticipated that they will select her in the upcoming days. Reports from the LA Times suggest that the team has already secured numerous national broadcast slots.
Despite facing unjustified criticism from certain fans and even some current or former WNBA players, Clark has the potential to revolutionize women’s sports if her exceptional skills translate to the professional level.
