Caitlin Clark’s Boyfriend Throws Subtle Jab at Indiana Fever Guard
Caitlin Clark celebrated her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery’s birthday on Saturday by sharing sweet photos of them together. The first-year WNBA star even wrote a heartfelt message for the now 26-year-old. Instead of getting a sweet response in return, however, McCaffery sent a hilarious jab at the Indiana Fever guard.
Clark started her post with an emotional note toward McCaffery, saying: “Celebrating you is easy… Thankful to have someone as selfless and as loving as you in my life.” But then, she threw a slight shade at him, mentioning, “May this be the year you finally find a way to outshoot me.”
While McCaffery expressed his appreciation by saying, “Love you forever,” he also called out the Fever rookie. “And I’ll keep letting you win those shooting contests!!!!!” McCaffery said.
McCaffery has a basketball background of his own. He played for the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2017 to 2023, having met Clark while she was wreaking havoc in the NCAA landscape. The 6-foot-6 guard finished his college career averaging 4.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. The two hard-launched their relationship in August 2023. They’ve since posted each other on various social media accounts, sharing a few photos from their time together.
After securing the NCAA’s all-time scoring record with 3,951 points in her four-year career at Iowa, Clark took her talents to the WNBA, where she was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft. She’s averaging 16.8 points and 7.8 assists per game at the time of writing, leading all rookies in both categories.
While McCaffery holds the height advantage in a potential one-on-one with Clark, a shooting challenge is a different story. The 22-year-old star has proven to be one of the best shooters on the hardwood in men’s and women’s basketball. McCaffery may be confident in himself, but beating a pure shooter like Clark seems like a tall order.
