During the Indiana Fever vs. Seattle Storm game, tensions escalated when Caitlin Clark engaged in some trash talk with Seattle’s Victoria Vivians. It all began in the second quarter when Clark made a 3-pointer to make it 34-28.
Caitlin Clark was spotted trash-talking the Seattle Storm player as she made her way back to the defense. Vivians bumped Clark, and the two began yelling at each other. To prevent a further altercation, Aliyah Boston, Clark’s Indiana teammate, ran up and pulled her away.
The dust-up led to Clark being given a nickname:
Fans absolutely loved it:
Thursday marked Clark’s third technical foul through her first nine games in the WNBA. The league allows up to seven technical fouls in one season before a player is suspended for one game.
“Being competitive is who I am, sort of through my whole career,” Clark said postgame when asked about translating her competitiveness from college to the WNBA. “I think at times there are ways I can probably channel it a little better, but that’s just basketball at the end of the day. That’s never going to change. I’m never going to lose that. I feel like I’m getting hammered.”
Head coach Christie Sides chimed in and said she likes Clark’s attitude. “She is a competitor, I love her fire,” the coach said. “We just gotta get better with the officiating. We got to get some of those calls.”
Caitlin Clark scored 20 points near the end of the game while shooting 6 of 17 from the field. Along with seven turnovers, she also contributed three rebounds, nine assists, one block, and nine assists, via ESPN.com. The Fever drops to 1-8 after the loss. On Saturday, they will return to action as they host the Chicago Sky. It will be Clark’s first professional matchup against fellow rookies Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso.

The Indiana Fever lost their eighth game of the season on Thursday, and Caitlin Clark received her third technical foul in her brief WNBA tenure. Midway through the second quarter at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, during Indiana’s matchup with the Seattle Storm, Clark made a deep three-pointer over Storm shooting guard Victoria Vivians.
Before Fever center Aliyah Boston broke them apart, the two clashed as they were running back down the court and exchanged words.
In the WNBA, a player can get up to seven technical fouls in one season before they’re suspended for one game.
Following that, they will be suspended for a game for every other technical they receive.
